Zen and the Art of Knitting by Bernadette Murphy (August 2002)

This is a different book than the normal sort of knitting book I like to get and to be honest, I had no absolutely no idea of that fact when I put a hold on it from the library. The auto pilot takes over when I log onto the LA Public Library site and I put a hold on all books that have knitting in the title. So when I sat down to look at this book few weeks ago, I was a little surprised to see it was a bunch of essays in it. Not a pretty color picture or pattern to be found.
Still I was game. I like a good non-fiction now and then. So I cracked it open and started in and made it about 10 pages before the yawns hit me. This is just not my type of book. I flipped through and read a story here and there but nothing really grabbed me. I appreciate the fact that people knit for a variety of reasons ... spirituality, connection, creativity, relaxation, etc.... but I would rather be knitting something on my own than reading other people's knitting life stories. But if you are into that kind of thing, give it a try. The writings not bad, though it's a bit sterile at times. But maybe I have been reading too much Stephen King lately. If it doesn't conjure up fantastic images in my mind, I am bored.
